Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale documentation and register by Patrick Dasse
Alfa Romeo originally developed the Giulietta Sprint Speciale specifically for motorsport in the Grand Tourisme class. The fact that the Giulietta Sprint Speciale ultimately did not achieve the expected success in racing likely contributed to its significant importance in the motorsport history of Alfa Romeo being forgotten and not receiving the recognition it deserves in the Alfa Romeo history books. Interestingly, the Giulietta Sprint Zagato, which later became extremely successful in motorsport, was actually a Giulietta Sprint Speciale that had been fitted with a body by Zagato.
Today the Sprint Speciale continues to impress with its beautiful design by Franco Scaglione and receives due recognition in this book. The book consists of two volumes, totaling 600 pages:
„Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale – Volume 1“,
300 pages, 222 black and white photos, 30 colour photos and 30 contemporary documents.
The first volume thoroughly documents the development of the Giulietta Sprint Speciale Tipo 101.20/750 SS, the Giulietta Sprint Speciale Tipo 101.20, the Giulietta Sprint Speciale U.S.A. Tipo 101.17, and the Giulia SS Tipo 101.21, as well as the racing history of the Giulietta Sprint Speciale Tipo 101.20/750 SS in Italy from June 1959 to May 1960.
„Alfa Romeo Sprint Speciale – Volume 2“,
300 pages, 231 black and white photos, 12 colour photos and one contemporary document.
The second volume includes a registry of the first 101 manufactured Giulietta Sprint Speciale Tipo 101.20/750 SS. It also lists vehicles from the Giulietta Sprint Speciale Tipo 101.20 and the Giulia SS Tipo 101.21 that have been documented to have participated in races or rallies. Additionally, it contains vehicles that are of particular interest due to special notes in the production book or because of their vehicle identification number, engine number, or production date.
